Richard B. Williams Scholarship

Richard Williams spent his entire life giving back to his Spokane community, through his commitments and supports of many organizations both in time and in financial support. He was active in Eastern Washington University and in the Africana Studies Program for over 20 years. Those who knew Richard speak to his generosity and willingness to always offer a helping hand, to always ask, “What do you need and how can I help you?”

Mr. Williams passed away in 2015 and in 2016 the African American Graduation Committee elected to create the Richard B. Williams Memorial Scholarship, a fund intended to assist African American high school graduates entering into higher education. Mr. Williams was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and was one of the 4 founders of Chi Alpha Alpha, the local chapter here in Spokane.

For nearly 30 years, over 1,000 graduates have been honored and bestowed with a Kente cloth to signify the richness of their knowledge. The African American Graduation and Celebration began in 1996.

Thank you for considering a gift to the Richard B. Williams Memorial Scholarship!
